A warm, insulated lining effectively protects you from the cold in temperatures as low as -47°C. Lab and field tested with hikers. We approved the comfort temperature both at rest and while walking, as this can vary significantly: -23°C when stationary and -33°C when walking. We also considered how men and women feel the cold differently.

Are these boots warm enough for winter hikes?

A 100%, waterproof, low cradle protects the part of the foot most in contact with the snow. The textile upper is water-repellent and warm for effective protection against cold and snow.
The seams ensure that the join of the inner shoe and the upper are waterproof, providing increased protection.
The upper seams (laces) are not watertight. In wet snow, water can, over time, get in through the seams.

How do these boots protect from outdoor conditions?

Traction depends on the number and shape of the lugs. The grip depends on the materials of the sole and the tread pattern, like car tires. Traction optimizes propulsion, prevents slipping when going uphill, and stabilizes the boot. 
Grip prevents the boot from slipping and skidding on smooth ground or in demanding conditions (rain, snow, and ice).

What is the difference between traction and grip?

The Snow Contact soles are designed for maximum comfort and grip for hiking on snow. The 3.5 mm (0.14“) lugs are spaced strategically for optimal grip when hiking on snow. They provide optimal grip on hard snow and evacuate excess water to prevent you from slipping.

How much grip and traction does this boot provide?

The material and tread of Snow Contact soles are specifically designed for optimal grip and traction. Snow Contact soles are more effective on snow than traditional soles. When walking on ice, adding crampons to your boots is the only way to ensure optimum safety.

What are the advantages of Snow Contact technology?

This product was lab-tested by our engineers to ensure your total satisfaction. We tested the following elements: tear resistance of eyelets and straps, bonding, toxicology, abrasion resistance of outsole and upper components, and accelerated aging.

Will my boots withstand regular use over the long term?

To stay warm when hiking in the winter, we recommend the following principles: 
Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool).
 Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable.
Boot height: the height of the sock should correspond to the height of the boot—for more protection, choose higher socks.

How do I choose the right footwear for hiking in the snow?

Water repellency is a material’s ability to shed water without absorbing it. It prevents the fabric from soaking up water, keeping the upper light, breathable, and warm. Water repellency is achieved by treating the exterior. This treatment needs to be reapplied throughout the product’s lifetime. Leather care products are available in our stores.

How to preserve the technical qualities of the boots

Boots can become heavy through condensation and perspiration if you wear them in wet conditions.
If your boots are very wet, remove the insole and fill the upper with balls of newspaper, changing the newspaper regularly. The paper will absorb the moisture and dry them faster.
Never place your boots too close to a heat source. Leave them in a warm, dry, and ventilated place.
