You can even take them to special basketball lessons with child-friendly rules from the age of 3 or 4.

Should you take your kids to basketball lessons?

The ball size depends on the player’s age and gender.
Size 1: Ages 3 and up
Size 3: Kids ages 4 to 6
Size 5: Boys ages 7 to 11 / Girls ages 7 to 13
Size 6: Boys ages 12 to 13 / Girls ages 14 and up and women
Size 7: Boys ages 14 and up and men
For durability, choose a rubber ball. If you want a ball with a good feel, leather or synthetic is what you need.

What ball should you use?

The official height of a basketball net is 3.05 m [10′] (rim height).
If you want a basketball net for your child, you need something that will grow with them. 
There isn’t an official height for younger kids, so you can choose whatever suits them best.
Up to the age of 10, club nets are set at 2.60 m [8′6″]. 
After the age of 10, kids play with 3.05 m [10′] nets.
