16 L Hiking Backpack - NH Escape 500 Black

$35.00

The 16-litre (3.5 gal) backpack was designed for hiking and everyday life. This hiking bag has 3 major advantages: comfortable, compartmentalized, accessorized. Practical every day with 2 compartments, 12 pockets, and great features in a carry-on bag size.

Fabulous but redesigned?

In late 2023, I purchased the NH500 16l backpack and found it to be an exceptionally good everyday use pack because of the multitude of pockets and the overall 16/17 l capacity. This also makes it a great personal carry bag for the budget airlines. I was so impressed that som

e weeks later, I bought the larger 23l version, which is equally as good but a bit hit & miss for personal carry due to the larger size depending upon the fastideoness of the check-in crew. In Jan 2025, I decided to buy another 16l also in grey but was very surprised to see that 3 pockets have disappeared when compared to my original. Another reviewer (Chloe) mentioned this but seemed to think that it only applied to the yellow version. Well, my grey one also has these 3 handy little pockets missing and although not a deal btraker I'm confused as to why Decathlon would have removed them, particularly the zipper pocket within the 1st folding flap which also had the key holder within it (as it made key storage much safer) and the little zipper adjacent to the bottle holder. I'm presuming that this is a redesign across the 16l range, presumably to shave off a bit of cost.

This bag feels well constructed and is excellent for an EDC. Came with chest straps which, thankfully, are removable. Doubt that sternum support is needed for a 16L backpack. Good padding on the tech gear slots and ample organisation built into it. Overall a good product.

As a smaller person I like a smaller bag so I dont look like a ninja turtle, but usually end up sacrificing organisation and pockets. But this bag has a plethora of useful pockets and features, especially for travel, and for this price, what more could you want? Some of my fa

vourite features are not only rare to find on even more expensive bags. Sunglasses pocket at the top of the bag, huge and secure water bottle pockets with a hidden pocket unde one side (for wallet/passport), main pocket has extra little security tag for the zips to go past to give you some extra piece of mind in crowded places. Also sturdy enough to hold up to being gnawed on to try and get at my food when some coatis stole my bag in mexico. Only things i can think i would like to add to a near perfect bag would be a kangaroo pouch on the bottom for dirty shoes/wet towels/swimwear. I would also swap the bike light mount for a more sturdy gear loop to confidently hang something from the back.
