A helmet mainly protects the rider's head. Rigorously tested in our workshops, the 520 model features a shell designed to absorb some of the energy on impact through partial deformation of the shell and/or the protective material. In the event of a fall, replace your helmet: damage to the inner layers may not be visible.

Protection 

One of our engineers' top challenges was to design a tough, solid, light, and extremely comfortable helmet. To do this, the Fouganza team focused on the straps’ ergonomic feature as these straps sit against the rider's face. They are made from soft, spongy polyester for true comfort! The removable, machine washable hat, which is attached to the helmet via a rip-tab system, contains foam that is precisely positioned to reduce the pressure points on the head.

Comfort

Whether on a pony or horse, riders tend not to take it easy! To avoid overheating perspiration, the 520 helmet is very well ventilated. 27 holes on the front and top, as well as the ventilation channels beneath the shell allow air circulation to help keep riders cool. Air enters the front of the helmet and goes out the back. No more damp hair when riding’s done!

Optimal ventilation: 

A helmet that doesn't hug the head and moves around fails its main purpose. To ensure a good fit, the 520 helmet's harness was fully redesigned. After various tests, an ergonomic system was created that passes across the rider's neck and under the chin without squeezing. The harness matches the shape of the rider's head for moving around easily. This means that the helmet stays in the right place. Mission accomplished!

Fit 

Our 520 helmet is available in various sizes, from 53 to 61. Although Decathlon stores stock a wide range, a particular size may not necessarily be available. Don't forget that online ordering is also available on our website! For the right size, measure the circumference of your head and try on the helmet. The helmet should be a good fit for best protection! For children, never buy a helmet that is too big on the assumption that they will grow into it.

Choosing your helmet 

Since luscious locks aren't always practical when riding, and because many riders leave their hair down when schooling or hacking, the 520 helmet has a trick up its sleeve. One of the harness straps passes across the back of the neck and can be used to tuck a rider’s ponytail between the shell and the harness to avoid stray hairs from escaping. We've thought of everything!

Practical: 

The 520 helmet contains a hat made from foam and mesh (breathable fabric) for real comfort. This hat, held in place with an effective rip-tab system, is removable and hand washable in cold water. If the helmet isn’t damaged, and riders just want to change the inside of the kit, no problem! Buy a new foam hat for comfort without investing in a new helmet.

To clean your helmet, simply wipe with a cloth.
Using solvents or other aggressive products is strongly discouraged; they could affect the helmet's properties causing it to deteriorate. The removable inner hat is machine washable at 30°C.

Easy care 

Depending on your riding style and your tastes, the 520 helmet is available in several different models. Whether painted or covered with fabric, there are a variety of looks available to suit the preferences of each and every rider. Some people will prioritize the sleek lines of the plain classic version, while others will want the two-colour model. As for the rhinestones, we know they'll be a hit with all dressage fans.

A sleek look: 

For optimal protection, the helmet should fit snugly without being too tight. When the straps are properly adjusted, the helmet should not slide forward, back, or from side to side.
The strap should pass under your jaw and not over the chin. It should be tight enough to keep the helmet in place without choking you.

Adjusting the helmet

This riding helmet’s shock-absorbing outer shell may partially deform upon impact as it dissipates the energy.

A helmet reduces the severity of head injuries. The protection your riding helmet offers depends on the accident in question. Wearing a helmet does not always prevent death or serious injury.

We know that you are itching to try your helmet, but for safety reasons please read the instructions before use.
This helmet is for horse riding only; it should not be used for motor sports, snow sports, or air sports. Unfortunately, if you decide to take up bobsleigh, Formula 1, or hang gliding, this helmet won’t meet your needs. We recommend opting for more suitable protection.

Use 

We recommend replacing your riding helmet 5 years after its manufacture date (shown on the label) if your helmet has never suffered an impact and has been stored according to instructions.

Damage may not be visible. Any helmet that has suffered an impact must be replaced.

A riding helmet is a type of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
