Choosing the right size of cross-country ski poles is essential. 

For skate skiing, the poles are bigger to maximize push-off.
For classic cross-country skiing, the poles are smaller.

They can be made of various materials.
Aluminum will be sturdy and heavy = ideal for beginners.
Fibreglass will be lighter, but more fragile.
Carbon fibre and other materials will be extremely light and rigid.

How to choose your cross-country ski poles

For skate skiing, there are two ways to choose your pole size: 

1- Choose poles that are the height of your shoulders.
2 - Multiply your height in cm by 0.89 to work out the size of your poles.
